Out of curiosity, i was wondering how much fuel does a stock C3 tank hold? I dont ever let my tank completely run out in fear of being stranded but i can only usually get about 9.5 gallons in it filling back up. Dont know if the tanks changed throughout years...mine is a 74...

Matt,

If you can find a couple minutes, take a look at the tabs at the top of the page, see the "Tech Center", click then go to the "Model Center" and click on 1974 or year you interested in and there you'll find all kinds of information ;)

You'll also find out that Tom73 is usually right ;)

for some reason i thought the tank was smaller...its a tank from ecklers if that possibly has anything to do with it..maybe not. anyways, thanks for the help. i keep forgetting about those pages...-matt

I have a early tank in mine and have the same problem, the most I have ever put in it was 11.5 gallons when it was on "E" where are the other 6.5 gallons?
there is still gas in the tank but it only looks to be an inch or so

I see that you have a '76. Didn't those have a bladder in the tank? Could be that it is collapsing.

I have a early tank without the bladder modified for an in tank pump for the TPI set-up I guess someday I will see how many miles I can run on "E' but at 11-12 mpg I don't like to get below 1/4 before looking for a sunoco station:L

And you dont want to run a in tank pump out of gas. The gas cools the pump, if you run it out of gas you could end up having to replace the pump. :(

Yea I know that, thats why I fill it at 1/4 :D the Rock Valley conversion was not cheap:L

Greetings from AZ:
I recall an article recently - -I believe in Vette Vues-- that showed a tank that had been compressed inward because of a faulty venting system and accordingly, the capacity greatly reduced. It was not apparent from underneath, but the top of the tank was "sucked down" by the evacuation of fuel . If you've heard an extreme sucking sound when releasing the fill cap, you might find the vent lines collapsed or plugged. Just a thought ??
Regards

thanks for the info CQRT, although, i do not recall hearing a sucking sound..i'll check to make sure though when it quits raining...its nasty here today:(
