In restoring my 78 Vette, I had to replace my oil gauge. I got the cluster all back together and noticed that the clean white needle of the new oil gauge really stood out among all of the other "yellowing" needles of the other gauges. My wife suggested painting the older needles with modeling paint to make them whiter. Has anyone done this, or would you recommend I not do this. I would rather not replace all of the gauges just because the needles are not the right color. I appreciate any feed back.

Thanks,
Bill

Close to 20 years ago I re-painted the orange gauge needles on my '63 because I replaced the clock and the new needles were so much brighter. I just used Testors model paint that matched up well. I still have the car, and the needles still look good. I never formally checked to see if the speedo/tach still read correctly (I'm guessing they needles were a little heavier with a coat of paint on them), but they were never off enough to be obvious.
