I have recently acquired a 69 that does not have the original block. The previous owners put a 327 in it with a distributor that has electronic leads for the tach display. They used an after market tachometer clamped to the steering column. The question I have is, can I take an electronic tachometer from say a 1975 model vette and put it in place of the original gear driven tach? Will it match up to the original dash panel? :confused

If it's an HEI distributor, a tach from a '75-'77 should work just fine. I've seen them on Ebay on the odd occasion, but they're not cheap. Maybe $200? Worth it though, as the electronic ones generally don't crap out. Might need to build a small filter setup for it, but past that it should fit and look stock.

If it's NOT an HEI distributor, I'm not so sure - maybe someone else will pipe up.

why not put mech.tach drive distributor in, either old style with points, or a msd or other brand if you want electronic. then you can use the original tach.

corby, a 75 tach will fit directly. all bulbs and ground connections go together fine. you should be able to find a salvage yard (on line or corvette magazines) for about $100.
another alternative is to by a non- working tach cheap. usually the circuit board goes bad and can be replaced for appx $60. quick and easy!!!

good luck
