I would like to get a little more acceleration out of my vette. I have looked at engine mods (supercharger etc)...they are all very expensive. I am wondering if changing the axle ratio/rear end unit would be a good idea. Currently have stock ratio. Is this a good mod, and would it be hard to install?

I believe that the 1999 Corvette came with 2 gearing options: standard and performance. Which do you have?

Gearing can certainly help, but it is not cheap. I think I have seen that such a swap can be $3000-$4000 installed. I am sure that some people who have done this will chime in.

F15over, do have an automatic or manual tranny? Look at your option codes. If you see "G92" that means that you have the peformance axle ratio (3.15 for auto's). My 96 A4 has the G92, and it's 3.07 ratio does seem to have more kick than the standard ratio from a dead stop.

I changed my 2.73 gears to 3.73 in my 92 automatic. It was great for city driving and sprinting around town until it broke down. Some of the teeth cracked and so I had to re-install the originals.
I would probably do it again only if the gas prices would go down a little......It's expensive on gas if you travel on the highway.......but the fun factor is there!

After more research, I think I will leave the gears stock. Thanks for the replies!
