Just thought I'd post an update: Funny how things work out. I got both clusters in yesterday ... the one Gene Taber repaired (for a total of $507) and the one I bought on ebay from Austin, TX. We installed the one Gene Taber repaired as that was the original dash cluster. It blinked, the turn signal indicators came on and stayed on and the only thing you could see on the dash was the fuel gauge. In short, it was DOA. So we put in the one I bought on ebay for $250 (with a 66,000 mile odometer, my old one showed 104k) and it fired right up and is working perfectly. So the lesson here is (1) what they said about Taber is true (below are some previous posts) and (2) always have a backup plan. I sent Taber an email telling him about his POS work but I think I'll just send the non-working cluster back to Austin to get my $100 core charge refunded and take my losses with Taber. I honestly thought this guy was good. What a rip-off and a disappointment.

Whatever you do, dont use Gene Taber cluster repair service. Hes VERY slow and i received my cluster back from him with a cracked LCD in it. My Vette is a daily driver and i cannot afford to pull it again. he will not send me an advanced replacement to keep downtime to a minimum. Be aware!

Gene Taber: Corvette Parts & Service
Has anyone used this guy in Bloomington, Indiana for gauge repair? DONT! When I first called him he told me about a week turnaround time on my 92 gauge package repair. I sent it to him, and after not hearing anything for a week I called back and he had no idea who I was. Then he found the UPS box sitting there and said he would look at it in a day or so. Since then I called several times, each time he would say is "I ain't looked at it yet!" and said he'd look at it tomorrow. It's been well over a month and still no word so I said the heck with it and bought a used gauge cluster off of Ebay. Take my advice, DONT SEND YOUR PARTS TO THIS GUY!

Funny you brought this up; Gene Sr FINALLY called me a few days ago and said, "I cant find anything wrong with this so my suggestion is to replace it for $250.00. You got a credit card #?" Resisting the urge to say something extremely unchristianlike, I told him to keep it and hung up. Thankfully, the used gauge cluster I bought off of Ebay for $50 bucks has worked fine, plus was not as faded as my old one.
