If I'm just trying to keep the car in a decent state after restoring parts, what's the general rule about parts being painted or not that were rusted and then media blasted. So as to keep the rust from coming back. In other words, I've been sealing out the rust by painting them after getting rid of the rust. These parts are always things you can't see, hidden under the console, etc.

I use POR-15 metal cleaner, prep, and paint. Excellent stuff.

Bare metal should always be coated with something, paint, primer, plating, dipping, etc.

:)

I agree but for primer... generically speaking, primer alone (depending on type, etc) on bare metal can in some cases be porous and itself allow rusting eventually... If priming - still needs to be coating in something like paint IMHO...

If in some cases you are going for a 'natural' metal finish - can use various coatings like 'Cast Blast' (a grayish silver paint that approximates cast iron fresh look) or a matte clear paint after freshly blasting or cleaning... The treadoff w/ clear is that there's no primer under it.

Good luck!
