generator hookup?

Hi all,
I just test started my rebuilt 283 motor- 2x4 270HP. It is mounted on my rolling chassis. Expected a few problems and had a few problems.
1) The back carb is loading up and dumping excess fuel into the manifold.
2) Oil leak from a plug in the block just above #7 cylinder and to the right. I think I will have to pull the head to get at it as it is half covered by the head. (Not happy with my machine shop right now)
3) The generator is running hot. It is not hooked up to anything just there so I can run the belt to the water pump. Do I need to ground it or something, or is it OK to run like that?

Aside from that It ran and sounds awesome.
Thanks for any replies.

As to the carburator, the needle and seat may have a piece of dirt in it and as far as the generator, as long as no juice to it, it will just spin. Parts do warm up to engine temperature however.:upthumbs

Your welcome, 270 cars are nice pieces;)

Generator is working fine now. :confused
Congradulations on the milestone of getting the motor running. Can you just picture yourself sitting behind the wheel of the car getting ready to pull out of your driveway?

All kidding aside when I start a project I always have a mental picture in my head of me driving down my road in it.

How bout some pictures

Hey IH2LOSE
It is exciting but also a bit of a setback as I will have to pull one head to remove an oil plug that is leaking. Think the machine shop forgot to put sealer on the threads. Today is not a day that I am thinking about driving. I still have a long way to go. But as the weather improves here in the northeast I'm sure I will. I'll try to post some pics soon.

I think its a minor set back to day,It would have been a major set back had the car body been on the frame.Time consuming but an easey fix.

Good luck

->IH2LOSE Yes you are right. Much easier to get at now without the body on. Was easier to find the leak too. Glad I did it this way. Many new/rebuilt parts that all have to be tested at once. Generator, water pump, carbs, distributor, fuel pump, exhaust, radiator, etc. etc. You know how it goes.

Studio, Please send me some pics of your rolling chassis. It's like "fuel for the soul" to keep me going. Body lift soon, looking forward to seeing my own rolling chassis. Larry

:L I know where you're coming from. I'll try to post some pics soon Larry
