Hello all,
I am getting ready to have my vette re painted. I have decided on a dark red/burgundy color. I have seen the color on newer(98+) vettes (factory),
my question is how much should I be spending for this job to be done? I want a quality paint job that will look good and dont mind spending some $$ but I have gotten prices from 3000 up to 8000, well what do you all think? I would like the best quality paint job, with a few layers of clear coat. also what do you guys think of the color combination I have chosen? Im re doing the interior in lt saddle and the exterior will be dk red?
thanks for any input

I like your color choice. I think the dk red exterior will look sharp with a lt saddle interior.

As for cost, $3k-$8k sounds about right. Of course, I would expect the quality to vary between those prices. I paid $4500.00 for my paint job, and my two-tone with painted on pinstripes and clearcoats was a pain-in-the-butt for the paint shop.

I would recommend getting estimates from several shops and also attending a local Corvette club meeting and asking who they would recommend.

Things to ask a prospective paint shop:
Have you painted Corvettes and do you understand the differences between painting metal vs. painting fiberglass?
Discuss how you would like the end product to look.
*(I was shown an example of my painter's work, which was a LOVELY pearl white, but when he said my car was ready it looked like it had goosebumps the orange peel was so bad. I needed to clarify that orange peel would not be acceptable to me.)*
Discuss what will be done and considered included in the quoted price.
*(Many times the weatherstripping needs to come out for a proper paint job and then new w/s needs to be installed. Trim removed? Hood, bumpers removed? New w/s installed? New emblems installed or old ones re-installed? The list could go on and on...)*
Ask to see examples of vehicles he has painted and ask for contact references and call those people.

Anyhow, I'm sure someone else will chime in with more information for you. Good luck with your project!
