OK here's the deal: I have a '84 Coupe with the dreaded crossfire system. I just recently found out it has a Turbo 350 trans in it. Is that good or bad? I have true dual exhaust with no cats, no pollution control stuff, rapid fire plugs (big deal I know), Ram air mod, new wires & tune up kit, '91 Fuel pump and am running syn-blend. I know these things are not as fast as other years but this thing isn't really all that bad considering it's a "ceasefire" I put new 255/50s on the rear (others were bald) and from a dead stop the old car will light them up into 2nd gear. If I tromp it from a stop (no powerbraking) and leave it in Drive it will burn through 1st and then shift into 2nd while still spinning. If I manually shift it & watch my launch, I can get away with less spin & then when it hits 2nd the assend hooks really hard and squals like a "scalded dog". My old '79 would burn them off if I started off by powerbraking, But this one has much wider tires under it, and can put on a "show" at command (thats with brand new rubber no less) just by floorin' it. As far as performance I easily beat a GP GTP from a dead stop to about 70 before we had to shut down. It really p.o'd the pontiac driver cause he knew I had a crossfire & he thought he'd beat me. We tried using my old G-tech but had trouble getting it level. I got one run of 6.2 for my 0-60 so I don't know?? BTW, I also know (the hard way) that I am avearging about 8 miles to the gallon--Yea 8 mpg, But thats with driving the crap outta the thing too. I know nothing about trannys & gears etc. & I know nothing about the car I bought. I didn't really care because it is just kind of a toy to mess with. Here are the "ratios" for the stock trans & the transplanted 350 turbo--

700R4 TH350

1st-3.06 2.52

2nd-1.63 1.52

3rd-1 1

4th-.7 N/A

Whataya Vette'sperts think? Thanks for any info BTW. Also I don't think my old Crossfire is bad@$$ or anything I'm just surprised it even has as much punch as what it does.

Well as long as you are happy sounds good to me. probably the only thing really bad is that you lost overdrive with gthis combo and Gas mileage will suffer big time.

As to speeds it's all in what you want your car to do! 0-60 1/4 mile, track or just crusing.

That's one nice loooooking 84. sounds like it's tuned right too.
does it have the Z51 option?
