To those of you that have done this and enjoyed it, I have a question.

I have removed the 25 year old weather strip and have the replacement. I noticed that the aluminum frame that attaches to the glass in some parts has separated from the glass. How do I repair this?? Can I use clear Silcone to join the pieces and clamp?? Will it hold???

Thanks in Advance

I would use windshield adhesive like they use to glue the windshields in now a days with.

Thanks. Took your suggestion and went out and got a tube.

Hope it works

Update, Does not hold. Used as directed. Cure time 2 hours.Unclamped it and it popped apart again. Adhesive was bone dry.

Now what to do???

You would think if it holds a windshield in place it would hold a molding to glass. Did you get all the old adhesive off both parts before applying new?

Yep, cleaned well. You'd think it would work. I wonder what GM used.

I have the assembly manual and it shows the 4 studs glued to the glass first

Then when dry , they press the frame over the studs.

Use urethane window sealer the same as you would use on the windshield glass when reinstalling the glass.

Allow a day to let it cure real good before you put it under stress and put it on the car.

Thanks Guys.

That was the stuff I was using as per bossvette. I did what you said ajtmwalker
and clamped it up and let it sit over night and it seems to be holding. I guess I shouldn't believe the instructions all the time. It said a 1 hour cure time.

Now To put the weatherstrip on, another fun task.

UPDATE!

Ok Now I'm loosing hair. Just when I thought it worked, wham! one side popped open again. This time I'm going to apply a very small amount of clamping force and see if that works.

Enigma,

I have had good luck with Weldwood contact cement for gluing weatherstripping on. the surfaces have to be cleaned with laquer thinner to get the grease off first, and it will probably strip off the old glue that you used the first time.
Apply the glue, and let it dry about 20 minutes till it's tacky, but not dry and press the two surfaces together. make sure it's aligned properly, because it will be stuck on contact.
Clamp it for a few hours and Voila, it's done.

Pete.

Thanks wishuwerehere. I 've got no problem with the weatherstripping. I have done the drivers side "T Top".

Someone tell me that I don't have to remove the window molding to replace the piller post weatherstrip. That would be a chore. It looks like There are 2 screws and the clip.
