[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] Chevrolet has determined that the following service classes are essential to properly service and repair the 2006 Chevrolet Z06. To qualify to receive distribution, dealers must agree to purchase the Z06 essential tools and have completed the following service courses:
10290.13D – 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Features & Systems (Service Know How Seminar)
10441.17D – 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Diagnosis and Repair (IDL Broadcast)
16440.12D – Engines New and Updates (IDL Broadcast)

The 2006 Z06 will be the first US production car to use an aluminum frame, magnesium cradle and carbon fiber body components. These high-tech features require specialized service and repair procedures.

Dealerships that do not have a body shop can provide GM training for their selected sublet facility. The technicians that take and pass the training are entered in to the GM Training data base and assigned to that dealership.

With the aluminum frame and carbon fiber panels, there are four classes that will be required for body shop repairs. Taken together, these courses will enable body service Corvette Z06 certification:
WCA01 – Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding
WCA02
– Automotive Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test Prep
WCA03
– Automotive Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test
GEN01
– 2006 Corvette Z06 Collision Repair Overview

TIP: The Aluminum (MIG) Welding courses must be taken in sequential order.

I-CAR has been selected to develop and provide this training. You can access the I-CAR training site through the GM Training web site at www.gmtraining.com and click on the associated links to I-CAR. The I-CAR help desk phone number is 1.800.422.7872, and the website is www.i-car.com.

TIP: You must pre-register at least four weeks in advance with I-CAR. You must pre-pay I-CAR; payment options are on the pre-registration form.

The Service Know How and IDL broadcasts are scheduled to begin in August 2005. The I-CAR training should be started now to provide adequate time to get the body shop personnel through the training. Each of the I-CAR classes lasts approximately 4 hours.

If your dealership has questions regarding the required service training they should contact the Training help desk at 1.800.748.2687.

I suppose the GM service manual for the 06 Z06 mandates a 30 minute test drive REGARDLESS of the nature of the trouble, right? ;LOL

Need a new headlight? Be back in 30. :lou
Need an oil change? Be back in 30. :lou
Floor mats squeaking? Be back in 30. :lou

Hi there,
The car can scare people, including me.
I would be VERY concerned to drive the car, unless absolutely necessary.
Just too much can go wrong. This car is without a doubt the most intimidating car out there thus far. Balanced, refined, but blazingly fast and I could definately get over my head, very quickly. Not a chance I want to take with a 65,800 car, especially when it is NOT mine.

Your point is well taken. Although my post was mostly rather tounge-in-cheek, I'm sure that there are other mechanics out there that don't have the same consideration as you when it comes to customer vehicles. Thanks for being an honest one! :beer

Corvette exhaust note collection should be assembled

Aurora 40 brought back some not-so-old auditory memories by posting the sound of his 90 ZR1 accelerating from stop to the end of first gear. Being capable of a 0-60 dash of about 4.4 seconds, it was a short audio blast from the past. As we all know, the visceral sound of a vette has changed over the years, and it might be nice to assemble a colllection of every GEN 1 engine forward. I acknowledge this would be a tremendous amount of work across the membership, but it would certainly be a further diamond in the CAC crown.

Maybe there is an auditory engineer out there who coulld propose a relatively standardized and simple method to collect the sounds, all using some metric standards. Identical auditory environments are not posible to achieve, but considerations for distance from sound, or relative absence of background noise, etc might make this idea a perfect long term effort for the CAC membership.

I have also seen many C2 and C3 rat engin, but I do not think or cannot recall the excitement of hearing one.

Maybe I'm crazy.....what do others think of the idea?

Alternatively, CAC could donate one original car of each vintage to me, and I'd be happy to put them in my signature complete with sound clip. :)
