Hey C4 coupe brothers, take out the targa in under a minute. Sears Black and Decker 3.2 volt screwdriver and a 30 torx bit. It fits in the console just right, and has a torque setting. Used it many times without recharge. Eliminates needless cussing and the feeling of manual assemby/disassembly of the vehicle.

They sell this in Eckler's for $60. It costs $15. And a better one than the Skil clone. Hope this helps.

I sometimes didn't "pop the top" just because it was such a PITA with the supplied wrench. Looks like a trip to Sears is in order. Thanks!!

Wal Mart has 'em too. I think I'm correct on the 30 Torx. Make sure the bit is long enough to fit in the front part, about 1.5 inches.

I think it's actually a T-40 bit. And I definitely have to get one of those electric drivers.

You're right, it is a T40. I too saw those battery operated top removel tools in the catalog and thought they were too expensive. I happened to have an old Black and Decker battery operated screwdriver around, so I got a long T40 bit for it and it works great. The nice thing about the Black and Decker is that, although it's a little bigger than some of the others, the batterys are removeable and rechargeable. You can carry a spare battery. I've used mine for a couple years and it sure makes the process a lot easier and quicker. It's especially appreciated when a quick shower comes up and you need to get the top on fast.

I bought some stuff like this, but was never able to find a long enough T40 bit. Can't reach the bolts in the front for lack of clearance. So I'm curious why it works for you?

I had to buy a $5 cheapo torx bit set to get one that's long enough. It's worth the hassle to find one.

What we really need is a screwdriver that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Then you don't have to worry about recharging the battery.

I charged it up initially and have 25 off/ons and still strong. It's the 3.2 volt orange Black and Decker with the little hinged black handle. All you need.
