A buddy of mine is thinking of purchasing a black 77 Coupe. It has supposedly been sitting for 8 years in a garage. Miles are about 160k. It is in AZ so no water damage. Interior is rough and needs to be redone. He is looking at it for a hobby car/restoration and not a driver. Body and exterior are very good. He can probably get it for 6k I have my opinions and have not seen it but would appreciate any and all opinions. Sorry for the limited info all I have right now thanks!

I think it is too much. Depending on what you mean by rough those interior pieces add up quickly. Go to The Last Detail, or any of the other vendors, and check their online catalogue.

The car hasn't been run in eight years and has 160K on it. The sitting will lead to leaks and the engine is to uncertain having sat that long.

He can search around and find a low HP year car with a lot less miles in pretty good shape for $7 - 10,000.

My opinion.

I'll side with Boss Bob . . six grand seems strong for what you've described with a lot of potential unknowns. You might assume that engine and tranny are at minimum in need of a rebuild - - ac, brakes and other major systems will need service and he'll certainly spend a considerable amount on the interior. Given the value of a high quality driver 77, the current price doesn't give him much room before he's seriously upside down.
It's sure tough to guess without seeing it though . . .I'm local and would certainly be willing to go along for a quick peek!
Regards-

I agree... there are many unknowns and Bob is right... parts add up quick, especially with the "Corvette" name associated with it. These old girls can't just sit around either... you have to run them.

sounds like a lot of money to me. The Interior will add $1000-1500 even buying on Ebay I paid $4500 for my 76 and had it running for another $1000, but have since put 4 times that in it and am not done yet:D
