I'm thinking of upgrading the intake and more then just a better filter I was going to purchase a whole induction system. I found two, with one appearing to be better then the other.

The VeraRam System http://vararam.com/products01.html looks like it would do best but I'm concerned with getting water into the system if I get caught in the rain.
My second choice would be the Cyclone Induction System http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=VT3036&Product_Count=36&Category_Code=VTUNDER as it specifically address the water issue.

Anyone have any experiances with these two or know another induction system?

Don't know about "induction system"...but I just put on a Blackwing and it made a nice difference...:)

For those that have replied have you ever had your filters get wet in the rain due to their positions, either from rain or from splash water while driving?

I have had a VaraRam for about 6 months or so. I like it quite a bit. The only cases of hydrolock that I have heard about resulted from driving through a very deep puddle, or similar situation. I have driven mine in moderate rain without difficulty. The filter is foam, rather than cloth or paper, so I theorize that small amounts of water are vaporized, or at least the drop size is decreased.I run at the drag strip quite often. It is at 2600' elevation. Before the VaraRam, I would have a trap speed of about 108MPH. After the installation, I run about 112MPH, with a couple of 113MPH passes. I believe the induction is responsible for the increased horsepower. I saw a magazine article that compared Blackwing, one of the cone type systems, and the vararam. The vararam was the clear winner on the dyno, and that was without any 'ram' effect.

I really like the VeraRam system so thats where I think I'm headed but do you think I could leave the fog lights in there and just reduce the intake opening? Also mine will be something more of a daily driver so I was going to put on the Z06 cold air screens to protect the intake.

I think that you could leave the fog lamps in, as long as you were prepared to do some fabricating to make it fit. I have a Z06, so there were no fog lamps. You could also call the VaraRam place and talk to them. It may be that they fit with no modifications. They were helpful on the phone when I called for help on the installation. It took me several hour to install it. The instructions were a little vague in places, unless they improved them. Their tech line was helpful, however. You have to have access under the car and under the hood for the installation.

Gotta love technology, aparently they just redesigned it and they addressed both water and the fog lights. I clicked on the link you provided in another post http://vararam.com/products01.html and it talks about the new design. I'm sold now I just gotta decide which of the three designs, I'll think I'll go with the torque one, thanks for the help.

Bioscache2,

I was wondering how the system is working.

Anybody else have any input on either the blackwing or the vararam?

It appears both systems work well, and I would say the blackwing is definitely an easier install.

Thanks

Unfortunatly I haven't had a chance to get it yet as some other things took priority but I will post back as soon as I have. But one strong selling point of the vararam is that they gaurantee that their intake will beat any other competiors on a bone stock car. I believe the specifics are .5 sec faster then stock and .1-.2 seconds faster then any competitor in a 1/4 mile run. Pretty impressive claim.
