got the frame back today from the fabrication shop....they did a nice job...used a MIG welder, looks to me that the frame will bend and deform long before those welds will give way.....this weekend the plan is to put the rear end back in, get some rubber on the rear wheel (mount one wheel, just in case I have to return one) and do one last double check that the tires stay under the wheel wells.....started thinking after the last photos that while I attached the body to the frame with ONE bolt, it wasn't snugged up nor did I measure the distance from the frame to the edge of the wheel well on both sides, so for all I know the body was shifted to one side, so I need to get the body centered on the frame before I worry about tires sticking out....

that is the plan for this coming weekend......stay tuned!!!

You are making good progress. Are the new welds, and the body for that matter, primed? Post some pics if you get a chance. Hope you have a productive weekend.

the plan for the frame after I am comfortable that I have everything where I need it, is to sandblast the frame, and then either triple etch it my self and take to work for powder coating, OR the sales director is a corvette guy and was out at one of our vendors who can handle parts as big as frames and he can wash it with a special prep and then powder coat it...not sure which way I will go just yet....but sand blasting has yet to be done.

I stopped by the tire store today at lunch and ordered up some Kuhmo tires, 255-55 R17. Tire store told me as long as the tire isn't run on the road that if it doesn't fit the car like I want, they will take it back....it doesn't get any better than that....so on Friday I will take in my Cragar 17x8 with 3.5 inch offset (has a slight dish to it), get one tire mounted up and I will be in a position this weekend to confirm that everything stays in the wheel wells.

Called Myers today and they told me 275-60 R17 will work and stay inside....unfortunately most of the tires that we looked at were truck tires, when I dropped down to the 255-55 R17, then I got back into a car performance tire.....the 255-55 has about .5 inch less cross section at its widest as compared to the 275-60...so that is good...will know more this weekend....

Fabricator also took the MIG welder for me and stiched up all the areas on the stock frame on the bottom that were missed when the frame was built. I need to buy a grinder and smooth those out. I didn't ask them to do the top side, but tonight got my welder going real good and I closed up the front 1/2 of the car that can be seen from the engine compartment...needless to say those need to be ground for sure, but I figure I will be able to smooth them over pretty good with the grinder/sander. Looking down inside the engine compartment I want the frame to look real good....also ditched the battery tray thatI had just welded on in favor of moving the battery to the trunk, will be going for an Optima type of battery (no acid to leak).

More this weekend and I will have photos this weekend as well....
