I have had marks on my oak top since it was new. Every year I do the raggtop thing and the marks never go away. This year the top just looked plain nasty. Marks and spots etc. BTW its a garage queen. I wanted the marks and spots off and if the top got ruined so be it. I do the laundry in my in my house and use "Clorox2 Chlorine Free Bleach for Colors" on spots in clothing. The directions say rub it into the spot and wait 3-5 min then wash. Well its worked for years and the clothing comes out fine so after a little thought I wet the top down really well and applied the product to the spots and marks using my finger as a applicator. After about 3 minutes I used a soft brush on the affected areas and rinsed the top well and repeated the procedure. It looked much better, but after it dried all the spots and marks were gone. The top looks perfect. You cannot tell where the product was applied, didn't bleach the color at all. Next year I don't think I will wet the top first because I am not afraid of using this product on the top. If you want to try it use the right product. I repeat--- CLOROX2 CHLORINE FREE BLEACH fOR COLORS. Its light blue has the constancy of liquid laundry detergent. DO NOT USE CLEAR LIQUID CLORINE BLEACH. Just thought I would pass it on. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck

That's a great tip.
I think I'll move this over to Care and Detailing.

I have an Oak top on my 2002. I found that a scrub brush and Purple Power to clean mine. It works great. The marks dissapear after it dries.

I suppose that is possible. But for the last 2 1/2 years, I haven't seen any damage yet. I also only wash my top about 1 time every 2 months. I drive it as a daily driver and wash it 2 times a week. But the top I usually don't wash. I drive with the top down most of the time. Hope it doesn't rot it! It will probably ware out first anyway:L

Michael,

Thanks for this tip. I'm sure many with oak tops will find it very useful as what looks like dirt marks seem to be common with the C5's. I've already passed this on to quite a few members of my local Corvette club.

Thanks again.

Elaine

It'll will also help those with the 50th Anniv. "shale" tops. Raggtop wasn't cutting it for me. Thanks!!

I had not thought of that. They must be a PITA to clean also.

Yup.....especially since we've had it out in most kinds of weather, and some bad bird hits!
