Got the heads off today

Well, today a couple friends and I got to work on the 81'. We tested the compression all the way around. It ranged from 205 to 220....smiles on this face. After that we got the intake & the heads off and everything looked great. Monday the intake & the heads are off to Honeycutt Racing to be ported & polished. I am also adding new double valve springs, rebuilding the front & rear suspension w/ new springs, new power steering lines, a new polished alum. dipstick, new Optima battery w/new mounting hardware & cable ends, switching the head & intake bolts to ARP's. We also started to install the Shark Bar II harness system with G-Force straps. The plan is to be done in three weeks. Okay how did you get the heads off with the engine in the car? I cannot even get to the inside bolt of #8 cylinder exhaust manifold to get it off. And even then, I wonder if I can get to the bottom row of head bolts. What was your secret?

lanny, I took the heads off mine while still in car,the bottom row of bolts is a lot easier once you remove the exhaust manifold .welcome to the land of busted knuckles.lol.mike
p.s. you can buy whats called a knuckle socket wich"bends", it's easier with one for sure.

Mine is not stock. It's a 400 Dart and it's a lot easier to work with & is a lot more accessible than what you have. If you send me your e-mail I will send you pics of the work.
