Got this from the fiero site, don't know why the guy didn't have locks if they were nice wheels.

PROTECTING YOUR FANCY WHEELS

Here’s a heartwarming story of good triumphing over evil. A fellow had installed fancy new wheels and tires on his sports car, but only got to enjoy them for two weeks before they were stolen.

Thinking ahead, he had identification tucked into each tire during mounting. Inside each tire went a plastic zip-lock bag containing a copy of his driver’s license, license tag number, and a brief description of the car make, model and color. A short note was included, asking anyone doing work on the tires to call him collect if the vehicle didn’t match the description he provided.

Approximately 18 months passed, then a shop in a different town called. The caller was repairing a flat tire, found the note, and phoned. The original owner faxed him a copy of the police report, along with the receipt showing the tire serial numbers.

Deciding there was merit to his story, the shop confronted the tire repair customer with the evidence. He suddenly remembered a previous engagement, and left in haste!

The police were summoned, and they agreed the tires and rims were stolen. The fellow got his rims back; unfortunately the tires had little tread left. (Let’s hope his insurance at least covered the cost of the tires.)

And the perp? He was arrested for possession of stolen property! Whether he was the thief or purchased the tires from the thief, the story doesn’t make clear. Regardless, his suspicious behavior pointed towards guilt. This is another cautionary tale of why it’s not a good idea to buy something that “fell off the truck.”

Karma may get the guilty eventually, but why not speed the process along?
