I can't comment on any real performance gain, as I put in an HEI distributor in my 72 when I rebuilt the motor. Any performance gain for me was more from the build than the distributor.
But you CAN have HEI and still use your original mechanical tach as I did. I put in HEI unit from Dragon Fire. There inexpensive and carry a lifetime warranty.
I've had zero issues. Plus you don't have to worry about points anymore.
You can also get sheilding from a '75 to work in your car if using an aftermarket air cleaner if you want to keep that look.
A used unit from the boneyard could have issues, but if you go that route make sure the bushings aren't shot and the gear is good.
thank you thats something to think aboutYou realize that your tachometer will no longer work, your ignition shielding will no longer fit, and there is no performance gain to be had with doing this conversion?
thanks i will take a look at the dragon fire web sitei have the dragon fire as well. excellent unit for 120 bucks
here ya gothanks i will take a look at the dragon fire web site
Pertronix has a pointless conversion kit which will fit under your stock cap, give a stock appearance, and let you keep your tach drive distributor. All the aftermarket providers carry these.
