Yesterday..(Sunday).. Kid_Again called me on the phone and said he was down the shore and asked if he could stop by. Of course I said yes as he had his freshly finished "66" ZZ454/440-HP Cp (Tag Name"Grinnen") with Sweet Thunder Sidepipes with him.

He also wanted to come over and check out the progress on my 502 Conversion.

Well..I was in the gee-rage with the door open wrenching on my car when I heard some "Sweet Thunder"...Yeoooooooooooow Weeeeeeeee..!! I looked up and there was the Kid.

He motioned to me to get in ...which I did and off we went for a blast up the road. Man...what a nice Loud sound that car has. He was taking it easy as he only had 145 miles on the motor and clutch. But it felt very strong..Torquey..

The car looks great and it also has AC...Kid did the interior over as well as a nicely detail engine compartment.. We got car jabbering and after a while he had to leave. I completly forgot to get some pic's of his car.. Well maybe next time he stops by.

He's been busy and hasn't been on the forum that much..but I'm sure down the road he'll jump back on at some point. It was good to see the Kid and the Car....

Don't you just hate it when someone takes you away from working on your car? :L Sounds like a nice ride.

No pictures huh? :Buttslap

Oh man -- I wish I had known. I wasted almost the entire freakin day going to the Cavalcade of Corvettes in Newton PA. What a waste of time. I would have much rather been with you guys. -- Darn it.

Bummer Dude.....I didn't know he was coming till he called.. And..he only hung out for about 45 min. I think he wanted to cruz for chick's..

Yeah...The Newtown Show is a long way from Vineland....And it's a snoozer.:L

I'm with Tom - Nice story but where are the pictures? :(

Like I said... I had a Brain F_rt and forgot to get the camera... I'll get him next time. He's down almost every week end..:cool

Hey, good to see the post. I was gonna ask you about the camera and figured you were too excited to click the shutter.

Since I should have both of 'em downa shore this weekend, as long as the soccer moms don't get in the way of getting off the island, I'll stop by with your pick - sb or bb.

You know, those guys at Sweet Thunder are a pure delight to deal with and they make a very good product. I remember the honcho there talked me out of the 3" versions because he said THEY WOULD BE TOO LOUD. Upon careful review of that advice, I would say he knows his product well.

THE SOUND of those pipes when they hit a harmonic at about 2K rpm when cruising is just unbelievable. Sweet is the word. If you have "factory" pipes on your car, you REALLY have to hear these.

On a different note, now that I have a crate engine, I am convinced that my previous label of "grocery getter cam" is accurate. I bet this thing would idle at 250rpms. I'm used to cams that go from 600rpm to zero. At least I seem to have decent heads

Well ..I should be wrenching next week end...so bring the BB back and we'll shoot some pic's for the forum dudes. Just hang a sign onthe back of "Grinnen" that says ..."Socker Dad"..and maybe they'll let you off the island quicker......:L

Kid I just purchased the 454 HO (it has the same inards as your motor) except for your aluminum heads,

Are you saying the cam is too mild. Can you hear any lope in it. Did your motor come with a manual to explain if they want you to do a break in on it?

Lastly, are you using the 8 quart oil pan? I am having troubles finding a 6 quart it seems the 8 quart hangs too low for my car.

Best of luck with the new set up.

yup, followed the break in instructions to the letter and also spoke to the guys who sold me the engine...went with 30wt non detergent oil...oh, the engine runs fine and i am really pleased with it...if fires up RIGHT away

the cam is too mild for my taste, i prefer solid lifter cams that are more aggressive because it seems that no matter what i drive, i have to have my foot in it...and as VNV said, the bb's are torquey.....i just miss my solid lifters....i've almost made up my mind to sell the car but if i keep it, i put back in the cam i want with solid rr's and rr's up top as a "next year" project...i am sure you will be happy with the engine...my small block has a MUCH more pronounced lope at idle

..oh, the oil pan...the guys i bought it from installed it...moroso 8qt if i'm not mistaken....BIG pan but fits...i'll get you a PN if you need it

I am looking for a 6 quart or a lower profile pan.

Kid, great to see you back again - missed ya! :)

Sweet Thunder (Mike Cederstrom) is one of my Chapter members, and really DOES have a great product; he also understands what customer service really means. Nice guy!

Hey John! Thanks for the kind words.

Actually, it was your recommendation that led me to buy the Sweet Thunder pipes. I am not at all disappointed. Stopped by VNV's today and he should be posting pictures of my car soon.

I'll be darned if I didn't develop a squeel on the way from his house. It's difficult to figure out where it's coming from. I pulled off each belt individually and it's not the alternator or the A/C compressor. Looks like it's the water pump. Juuuuuuuuuuuuuust great. It's not the pump that came with engine, it's an aftermarket aluminum weiand that I had on the previous engine.

It's been an interesting weekend, especially for those of you who were trying to go southbound on Route 206 yesterday in Bordentown Newjoisey. Yup, that was me and roadster blocking traffic, being flatbedded for the ride back home. After a great deal of chop-busting by a buddy, I replaced the cotter pins that I used on the shifter rods with the correct jesus clips. Now don't everybody go and start snickering that I can't figure out how to put those clips on. I have a lift and can get right up in there. The shifter was perfectly centered and the clips were properly installed. No binding. Nothing.

I was stopped at the light and went to shift and badda-bing, no gears at all! Ttime to call the AAA. I actually could have jacked it up and fixed it since I travel with emergency parts but I had the living crap scared out of me :mad since I was in the left lane and my fellow New Jersians were driving up on the median to drive around me. Musta' been a foot away from me. I said to hell with it and called for the tow. Amazing, absolutely freaking amazing.

My thanks to the State Trooper that stopped by and then the two Bordentown cops who helped me get off the road. :upthumbs

So, it only took me 6 hours to get from Princeton to Ocean City. Or two visits to Princeton and one to Ocean City to be correct.

Yup, once I got it in the barn, I fixed it in 10 minutes. It STAYED in the barn.

At least there are ample quantities of Bombay Sapphire at home.

BTW, that does look like the oil pan on my 454 :grouphug:

I'm still at work.....Be home soon..

Once again you brought that Black Cloud with you....
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzz..!
Glad it is only a squeak and not a Ka-Knock...

Solved my problem.

Got a discount rate on the flatbed. I'll just put both cars up there and drive them around for the summer just like I'm in a parade.

Now I'm just like you, I have a bunch of inbound packages from SummitJegs. One of them is a new water pump. I'm tellin 'ya, if I get a good offer on the '66 it IS OUTTA HERE.:hb
