I have a 69 350/350 and just put a brand new #s matching carb on the car. It had HOlley on it and was supposed to be a Q-jet 7029207 to be correct. I found one on e-bay bought it,put it on and the car is almost impossible to start after siiting a couple days.I have checked every thing I can think of and find no problems. I had no problem starting it before the change. If I pour a little gas down the throat of the carb it pops right off. Any and all help will be appreciated.

VIET630,

Believe it or not ... this is not that uncommon with Q-Jets ;) There are apoxy plugs in the bottom of the carb that over time tend to let gas leak out of the Carb, and after sitting for about a day or so, it gets a bit stuborn to start ;)

I have this same problem with my 1981, since I don't drive it every day, I have justified in my own mind that this is a good thing :D gas doesn't sit in the carb and get bad :eyerole

I pump the heck out of it and about the third burst of the starter ole Rare fires right up, then is good until she sits for a day or so..

Try pumping the gas pedal like a mad man, I don't avocate holding the starter on more than a few seconds at a time ;) about second or third time my guess is it'll start ;) and run normal all day and start everytime during the day ...

I have the same deal. I never just fire straight up. It takes a couple of quick pulls on the starter for me. And before I do that, I pump the gas pedal a couple of times to get some in there.

Same here - I just refer to it as a little C3 fore play to get everything going and flowing for one heck of a ride and a smile that lasts all day......

Thanks for all the input! I have talked to a couple guys about this problem and one of them told me to put a little j-b weld on the well plugs. I'm geussing the well plugs are on the end of the 2 brass tubes that come down out of the bottom of the carb and have the 2 plugs soldered onto them?Shall I try it?

I know of several that have done the JB Weld treatment and it seems to be a fix. If I were to pull the carb off I'd probably dismantle it but, thats me ;)

For now I kind of like it the way it is, I know even with the ignition interrupt on the 1981, it's just one more thing to over come if someone wants Rare ;)

I agree i'm going to take the carb off and have it gone through. It is brand new but something is definately wrong. it is impossible to start now without pourig gas down the throat.

THanks again
