My 68--327 manual tends to not start when I park on a hill that is at a 45degree incline heading up hill. When level or downhill --no problem. Almost seems as though battery does not have enough crank power. But why problem only on inclines? I know someone out there has the answer. Thanks!

When you say no start, do you mean the starter will not crank the engine or the starter cranks but the engine won't run.

Also, 45-deg is very steep hill.

Starter will not start engine . Same symtoms as you have with start in freezing weather.

Well...my engines all crank and start in freezing weather so I'm not sure what you mean by the "same symptoms" as trying to start in freezing weather.

I'll assume you mean that when pointed up hill at a 45 deg angle, you turn the key to start and nothing happens. You said earlier that it will start on level ground or pointed downhill so try changing the solenoid. It could be that the copper ring in side the solenoid is not making contact then inclined to such a steep angle.

Starting on steep grades

What could be the problem is,that when you try and start your corvette
on a steep hill, you are also pushing down on your clutch,as its a manual box,
because a lot of cars the handbrake wont hold ,so you leave it in gear to help
the car from rolling down hill.Pushing down on your clutch while trying to start
in some cases puts more strain on the motor and starter motor, depending on
make model of cars, and i know it should not, but years ago ,i was a used car appraisor
in New Zealand, and most cars there are stick shift ,that used to be a problem with older Brittish
and Japanese cars and some GM holdens.

All manual gearbox C3s require that the clutch pedal be held against the floorboards in order to start the engine. The OP says he has a manual gearbox and knowing how poor the hand brake is on these cars, I wonder how he keeps the car from rolling during start on a '45 degree' hill.

Denny- does the engine crank slowly under these conditions or not at all?

Engine cranks slowly and eventually kicks in after 3-4 turns of igmition.

If it's an older style battery that's not sealed, are each of the cells topped up with water?
Mikey how did you know I was of Polish decent?? Did 4 out of 6 covered count? They are now. That could be the problem!
