Header Question

Did a search & no luck...
So looking at headers and i need to know if the header's cylinder head port shape needs to match the same shape as the exhaust port on the cylinder head. Then if not, which shape gasket do i use. Looking at some headers that have oval shaped ports, and i am pretty sure the exhaust port on these 350's are square...
I am sure it's a very rookie question but google failed me in this case.

As long as the header tube is larger than the exhuast port, then you won't have any restriction. I'd use the gasket made for the header, as long as it doesn't restrict the exhaust gas flow. Mild SBCs need 1 5/8" tubes & HP SBC can use 1 3/4" tubes.
