Headers Kooks or Supermaxx

from a pure $$$ value, and if you go to carlisle, the supermaxx system purchased from mid-america. if you purchase it at the event, you get 10% off, PLUS free shipping. the catalog price is $1499 for the complete system (long tubes, free-flow cats, x-pipe), the delivered price to your doorstep would be right around $1350. i may be wrong, but that price would be hard to beat, and may give the biggest bang for the buck -

After you finally decide on which headers brand are you getting, you will find yourself asking another beaten to death question: Should I get a 1 3/4" headers or a 1 7/8"? There are people who claim that you will loose torque with the bigger headers if you dont have heavy mods.

By the way, out of curusity, why aren't you considering the LG Motorsports LT headers? I have heard nothing but good things about them except they are pricey.

Honestly, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have been "penny-wise and pound-foolish" at the time and I'd have gotten LG's vs Kooks. I'm not saying the Kooks are bad....I'm just saying the LG's are better...IMHO.

Don? Just out of curiosity why do U believe the LG's are better than the kooks? and why would u have gone after the LG"s..

Over the next year or so I'll be replacing my FLP's with either kooks or LG's and I can't decide myself which I should purchase?

Is it the increase in low end torque that the LG's are reportedly famous for?

Your insight would be appreciated..

JB,

From all the results I've seen in my tuners shop, the LG's perform better. This is especially true if you decide to run with cats on. The high flow cats that come with the LG's are less restrictive than those with the Kooks. You'll notice a huge difference in tq numbers...trust me on this

If you are going to get Kooks, get the 1-7/8" collector. My tuner Slowhawk, DEZ Racing Seekonk, Ma. did a straight comparison with the 1-3/4" and the 1-7/8" made more power in every case.
When I did my Kooks, I had Borla shorties at the time, so I can't give you a total gain over stock manifolds, but I can tell you that the shorties were probably good for 10rwhp over the stock manifold. I had a baseline with a new cam of SAE 399.5rwhp and 372lb./ft. of torque. After I installed the 1-7/8" Kooks, I had it redynoed and the results were SAE 424.5rwhp 403lb./ft. of torque. The gains from the Borlas were SAE 25rwhp and 31lb./ft. of torque. The gains from stock manifolds were 35rwhp and 41lb./ft. of torque. LG's are a nice unit from what I know of them. Lou has done a good job. I must say that the Kooks were very well engineered in my professional opinion and had an excellent fit.
