When I had my 700R4 trans installed, the shop showed me that there was no way to run the exhaust. The holes in the frame were blocked by the trans... So, I installed the nice set of Hooker Super Competition Headers I had. No problem. Well, my pipe are rusted in between the pipes at the collector pretty bad, I love the looks of the pipes, but I have to take them off... Does anyone have a 700R4 in their 70's vette with normal exhaust? Do you just have to cut the holes in the frame bigger and reroute it?
Also, how about a set of headers with the 700R4? Do they fit?

I would call or e-mail bowtie overdrives, I would ask them if I would have to use a different exhaust set up or would the original work. I know you already have the 700R4 in but ask as if you are looking to buy there set up and just have some question for them about there set up.

Also there people here believe it or not that have the 700R4 in there C3 you are not the only one. I wish I could tell you but I still have the 350 but want to get a 700R4 in the future.

I am sure there are many with the 700R4, but surprisingly, your the only response, lol. It is a great trans, I love it =) Good idea about talking to bowtie though... Gonna have to give it a shot, will post their response here... Thanks

what i did was change my crossmember in mine so i could run any size exuast i wanted past it.You can get them fron bowtie ,but i fabbed up one myself.

Really?

I used a new crossmember from Bow Tie Overdrives. I had plenty of room to run headers. The pipes simply ran below the crossmember.

Curious problem though- I had sidepipes on mine when I did the 700R4 swap so it didn't matter. I did that mainly because someone else did the homework for the fabrication and that reduced my down time to three days.

That maybe your problem- the relocation of the mount versus the fabbed tubular one. My dad has an 82 and headers would be a little tricky for his car- he has only one exhaust passage through the crossmember.

I used the stock cross member in our 75. we did do 2.5 inch exhuast all the way back throught the holes in the crossmember without any tranny interference. I bought the bow tie overdrive crossmember, but the tranny hit the top of the tunnel with it installed. so I went back to stock and fabricated an adapter plate from 1/4 inch steel. The only problem I ran into is I had to move the emergency brake cable pulley. I see no reason the stock exhuast wont work. As for Headers, I have them on my 72 and have plenty of room in that.

I have a 700r4 from Bow-Tie overdrives..No problems... Was very tight the transmission that is on my 77.

Time to take it to a competant exhaust shop....i'ts easy to do, IF they have any brains that is.....most exhause shops don't know jack crap over anything beyond a U clamp and Walker.....gotta get with one that has the time, brains, and gear to go the job.....hard to find, I know.....

i need to do either the 700 r4 conversion or (preferred) manual conversion - probable going to have to go r 4 due to budget cost

I didn`t install mine myself but the shop changed the crossmember and shortened the driveshaft.
