We just purchased a 99 FRC and noticed that the driver side headlight seems to be missing a plastic cover that would provide access to the headlight assembly. There is one on the passenger side but not the driver side. The odd part about this is that my neighbor has a 99 FRC as well with the same panel missing. Is this common? Or are they not installed on the driver side? My neighbor said it's pretty distracting at night because light shines out the hole. We haven't had the car long enough to notice yet. ;)

Gorgon,

This is a common problem that took the "C5 Team" four model years to get right - talk about engineering excellence!

You must replace the headlight bezels and use the new "twist-in" plugs. A TSB was issued, but most dealers will only replace the bezels under the new car warranty.

You can see the bulletin at: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/question.php?qstId=207

When I purchased my 1999 new, the driver side headlight bezel plug blew out on the way home from the dealership. I purchased about a dozen plugs until the new bezels were issued.

Good luck.

Had the same pop-out problem on my 98.

Put black electrical tape around it on keep her in place.

Think I still have an extra one leftover from the jerk that backed into me at a stop light. If so, you are welcome to it. Assuming a 98 plug will fit a 99.

DON'T forget to silicon or glue them in, as it WILL happen again, and again.

Been there done that twice, hopefully my '03 has the cure.

Found one headlight plug from my 98. 2 1/8" dia. black, you can have it if you want it. Just message me your mailing address.

I put weatherstrip adhesive on mine and holds fine, my 2001 came without them. should have never been manfactured with the holes but after 40 years of owning Vettesd anything is possible. One thing for sure the quality today is 400% better than it was in 1961.

I'm missing both plugs on my 97. The original part number has been superceded with the new design so I can't even find the old ones now. (I've been an NCRS member waaaay too long - I don't wanna change the entire bezel.)

So...I'd be interested if there are a few spares out there, too. E-mail me: sebringbill@comcast.net

Thanks!
