Headlight Bezels

I am restoring the headlights on my 72 and was somewhat suprised to discover that the headlight bezel on one side was metal and the other side was plastic. What was original to 1972 and is this common to have two different bezels?

Early C3's had metal bezel's. I don't know when the cahngeover occurred but my 70 Cpe has 2 metal bezels. I seem to recall reading that the change took place when the headlight washer system was eliminated but I am not positive. I would think it highly unlikely that they ran with a material change in the middle of a model year but stranger things have happened. I would think that one was replaced sometime in the cars lifetime and a service replacement or used part from a later year was used.
