Hi guys,

I just found this little gem of an issue the other night, everything works correctly except the High Beams. When I pull back on high beams switch the high beams do not come on, and the low beams go out also. switch back to low beams and low beams work perfectly.
SO am I looking at the switch in the steering column? That looks like a real PITA to switch out.

Mike.

No but I dont know if indicator light would work or not. the dash indicator for right turn signals works, but for left turn the indicator does not work, but the turn signals do work. So I am not sure without tearing dash apart to get tester to the indicator light to see if it has power when high beam switch is on.

Simple fix -- dimmer switch- from your description- the normal mode it when you switch from lo to hi, lo goes out and hi comes on. Since the lo beams work, we KNOW they're getting power.

Dimmer switch is not tough to change. Pull the center panel below the steering column and it's right there. Look at the connector on it too. If the connection is a little loose or corroded, it' gets hot and melts things.

Headlamp Voltage Test

I would first test the headlamp's connectors for voltage or continuity since it is at the source of the problem.
As I recall, there are 3 wires on the connector.
A GM Service manual will show which wire goes where.
I would imagine one of the wires is for the Hi-beam, one for the Lo-Beam & one for ground.
If the voltage is there, maybe both headlights have burnt out Hi-beams.

If no voltage, I would do a continuity check going back to the dimmer switch then the headlight switch.

A few years ago, I bought a short/open finder which sends a pulse in the line to find the break in the line with a detector. This eliminates the need to trace wires that are wound with tape or wiring that is inaccessible.

Hope this helps.
