Last night, I drove my 1976 L48, (1st time out in close to a month)when dimming the headlights, the outside light was burning dim, yellow in color. After a jar from the road, it began to burn a bright white again. All the other lights are a bright white, but after another jar, yellow again. Would I look for a loose connection, or could this be something else. Thanks in advance, Donald.
I had the same symptoms on an old buick - turned out to be the headlight bulb itself. If you can't find a bad ground or socket, it can't hurt to try a new light.
Pull the headlight socket off of the headlamp and try cleaning the socket. Sometimes an oxidation build-up causes an intermittent connection. Try using an emery board to get in there and clean it up, then spray some contact clear in there as well. Also clean up the connections on the back of the headlamp as well, if that doesn't work then it's more than likely the head lamp itself. Also if the socket is corroded severely you may have to replace the lamp socket. Good Luck!!
