Hi everyone, I have a problem with my 2002, on the way back from Carlisle last weekend on the highway starts raining heavy hard I turned on the headlights after the rain stopped in turning them off I heard a growl, at the motel I turned them on then off, the drivers side light door motor was continuing to work after the door closed?

Also after bi got home in the driveway I started to smell wire or rubber burning, opened the hood and no smoke or fire thank god! The smell seams to be coming from around the drivers side firewall near the brake master cylinder.

I was just getting ready to start a thread on this myself. When I got to work this morning, turned off the headlights and got the same thing. The driver side headlight motor kept running for about 2 seconds. I haven't had the smell you decribed though. Also, now when I turn on just the running lights the headlights come up without the lights being on. Will this require a headlight motor replacement or some sort of adjustment?

That’s the same ting that my was doing the headlights pup-up when the switch is in the parking light mode.

As of this morning the driver’s side does not go up at all.:confused

I'm sure theres got to be others with this problem. Is it due to the gear in the actuator stripping? Can others that have had the gear problem give us some input on installing the new gears. It doesn't look like therers a lot to it. I wonder about the install on 2000+ models where the actuator cover needs to be pried off. Any good tips for this?

I replaced the actuator gear and everything is back to normal. Lights function like their supposed to. The head lights stay down when just the running lights are activated. Job took about 1 hour.

Well i brought the car over to the dealer last Friday for them to order a new motor and they told me that they would have to diagnose the problem first then order the part, so i had to bring it back on Wednesday and leave it there, i did and guess what it was the motor so they ordered one overnight and the problem was fixed by Friday.

They would not listen to me, but the service guy told me that i was Wright

I told him that the C5 forum is the best diagnosis going for information

Every thing is working great now.

check with rodneydickman.com he sells a gear replacement kit for 97-04 vettes.
you get a brass replacement gear and instructions for 39.95. I replaced one in my girlfriends 2000 coupe and it was pretty easy.
