My Headlights dont open on first try. Always on the second try. Perhaps this is because car rarely used at night so infrequent use. Or is this normal? Is there any lubricant that should be used. i would like to hear what others have experienced. I am trying now to turn on lights every time I take a cruise, which are mostly in daytime. thanks Dave

I have the same problem with my 99 hardtop.

I had the same problem on mt Y2K plus it made a grunting noise whenever the headlamps would raise. So I sprayed a little WD-40 on the headlamp linkage and and now the noise is gone and now my lights raise up fast like they used to when the vette was new. Its been a year and far so good !!

Can you tell me where do you access the linkage to spray it? Do you need the hood up or just the lights ? Thanks

Raise the hood and the headlamps, and under the center of the headlamp assembly towards the motor / actuator manual control knob you will see the headlamp door linkage. Spray some WD-40 on all the pivot points of the linkage and also where it pivots on the motor/actuator , activate your headlamp doors and couple of times and respray again. Don"t forget to do both sides.
Hope this this helps....

Your headlight switch could also be dirty, thus not making contact, due to lack of use. Try turning the switch on and off several times to clean the contacts.

Thanks you all for the advice. i will spray it this weekend. Dave
