Heads - which way round

I've just got my heads back from the machine shop and was about to remount them on the block when i realized I might have a problem. How can I tell which is the right and which is the left? It looks as though I could put them on either way round.

Does it matter, and if so how do I figure it out?

And yes I did take pictures while removing them, but the camera resolution was not good enough for me to read the numbers.

Suggestions anyone?

Normally it doesn't matter which head is on which bank; they're usually symetrical.

I should have added that if an engine builder has done something unique to the heads, he usually marks them left and right so he know where to put them upon reassembly, but normally they're interchangeable. ;)

you won't have a problem unless your accessory bolt holes (alt,p.s. pump) land in the back by the firewall. just check to make sure. mike

Are the accessory bolt holes the same as well?? I am going from memory, but it seems to me that my Edelbrock Aluminum heads contain two accessory bolt holes on the right/front, and only one on the left/rear...just a thought.

They're interchangeable/identical - no matter which way you install them, the accessory holes will be in the right place.
