What kind of Heat Sheild do you guys use on your starter?

The wrap around kind
or
A metal one? does the metal one bolt right up with no mod's.?

Witch one is better?
Your opinion is my choice. Thanks very much! gary.

I had a metal heat sheild on mine, when I installed the Crate motor I went with the mini-starter w/ no sheild.

The wraps have always concerned me due to moisture being held in. I would never use a wrap on headers, they rust out soon enough without it.
I don't know if there are any problems wrapping a starter, but my choice is the metal sheild.

Go with a mini high torque starter. You won't need the shield (unless you just want it), they are stronger, lighter, easier to remove and install, and they sound so cool when you spin it over. They are also getting to be very reasonable on price these days.

The best sounding starter is one that fits a 1989-up C4. They are made in Japan, small, heavy duty, and sound so sweet when you hit the key. They are so small, the heat does not bother them. Plus, they have a massive gear reduction that allows them to do more with less (even when they get really heated up).

mini starter

Thank's alot, Rick & Chris.
That mini starter sound's pretty darn good!
Is it a DIRECT bolt on for a '78'?
Is there any shims that i have to use?
And last but not least; is this the one you guys are talking about?

Sorry for so many questions, but i dont know! THANK'S

Gary,

I couldn't connect to that link, probably my puter messing up again.

I got mine on EBay for about $90, as Chris said look for the high torque race starter.
