My 89 Vette heater is sporadic, and the heater face plate displays radom numbers and most of the buttons work one out of 10 times. The heat rarely comes on as well.

My first action is going to buy a used heater control faceplate somewhere and see if that works.

Has anyone experience this problem and resolved it- buttons working seldomly and little or no heat?

Thanks.

Before spending bucks on the module, remove the thing and clean the contacts. There have been articles written on the subject, but I don't have any of them bookmarked.

Try to clean the contacts on the circuit board. Remove the controller from the dash and use an eraser from a regular wood pencil and rub softly across the contacts. This will remove any deposits that may keep the contacts from making good contact with the wires in the connector.

If this does not work, the chances are that the circuit board has failed. That would require a replacement.

Thanks. I did this about a year ago with spray. I'll try the pencil. If in fact it is shot, does anyone know of a online part store that sells these? The dealer wants $350 and 2 hours to service the codes. Crazy.

Not too sure about how the 89 ECC handles codes, but on my 92, the Climate Control system displays its own codes on the digital display and not thru the CCM. By pushing some system buttons in a series, the codes are displayed where the temps read. But you are having problems with the display, it might be next to impossible to read any codes.

What dealer in Seattle are you going to? I'm not sure if online parts stores have units as they may be a GM AC-Delco part. The service manual for my 87 says that the EEC controller is not repairable; it's just swapped out for a replacment unit.

Sporadic heater control

Use the 'Search' tab above. There are a lot of threads on this. Most recommend cleaning the contacts. Yes, a good eraser is much better than spray.
If yours is really shot try this place. It's a Corvette salvage yard but they're good; dealing internationally, accept credit cards, and have done me well.

Good luck

Thanks. I cleaned and still problems. About 10% of the time, the heater will come on, leading me to believe the Climate Control System needs to be replaced.

I just called contemporary corvettes. They have the part for $150. But they also metioned a part underneath the gas pedal that is $150 as well that is usually the first part ordered in fixing a problem such as this. It is a box size about 3" to 4" that is the mother board for the Climate Control.

Does anyone know how to determine which one is defective?

Had the same problem with my '89, I replaced the display head, no problems for the last 2 years.
Got the part at a local dealer - Paul Chevy, Ashland PA, for $125.
