So this puppy comes out from the engine side of the fire wall?

Batt out.. 7 bolts... and pull twds front of car?

Anybody do this recently?

Any good tips, tricks?

Just had to pull the stuff.....

...it comes from the inside !

Drain cooling system. Remove lines form heater core.

Put some plastic on passenger side floor, remove glove box (should be some 12 screws, inside and on rail below), remove the 2 lines that attach to the inner box and the cable that sits on the backside.

Great tip: remove seat....otherwise it´s a mess.

Have a second person that hold and navigates the box in the engine compartement (should be loosenend fully) so the box doesn´t break while the in/outlet gets through to the inside.

The heater core is held in place by two straps that are bolted (4 screws 1/4" head) to the sheet metal reeinforcement that the studs are sitting on as well.

Have fun !!

Like Mikey1 said you have to take it out from the inside but you have to take the outter box off the firewall first. Once you get it out clean/remove/replace/convert all the rusty parts in the heater box and heater fan. Also order and install a new set of heater box seals and gaskets. it's not a tough job but you only want to do it once.

There's also one stud with a nut on it on the inboard end of the inside box, just about car centerline; won't come out without removing this nut, and when you re-install, put that nut on first (loose), then tighten after you have the four main studs through the firewall and secured to the outer housing.

Does your car has AC?
If it does, I think this will make the job that much more a PITA

My car has AC.
I have put this job off for some time now..
One day I really need to bite the bullet and jump in with both feet...

Anyone ever done a replacement on an AC car?
Any unique problems?

Or do I just need a bigger :bang

I'd hate to :CRASH things

Did you get it solved ?

I took some pictures of the components and just want to check if you need them posted.

No I haven't done the heater core yet

Picture 1 shows the frame were the heater core is bolted to. The two straps hold the heater core in place and are mounted with two screws each.

Here you can see the mounting place and the inner heater box (straps not mounted and foam seal not in right place). The heater core is place inside the box. This box is completely on the inside of the vehicle (passenger side). The outer box with the blower mouts to the studs that you can see.

All of that stuff was already sandblasted and painted. So yours might look a bit rough....
