I know you have your chambered exhaust on now,
I've read some about it (can't find it again) would you mind
writing some more about it ?
Is it TRUE duals, or do you have a crossover pipe on?
When you step on the loud pedal, is there more horses on duty?
How do you like the sound?
Any pro's \ con's?
Are you glad you have them?

Sorry there's so many questions, but this could be what makes up my mind between chambered or flowmasters.

My vette is factory stock, no changes. (1978)
Thanks very much! gary.

Go for chambered!!! We have it on our '74 small block automatic, and it is unbelievable how great it sounds now! I couldn't tell you if it's true duals or a crossover pipe or if it created more hp (which I doubt), but the sound is terrific...and small money!!

Is it too loud?? That's in the "ears" of the beholder, I guess! At first, I thought it was too loud, but that was compared to the quiet existing exhaust. Now we love it!

Type up....I can't hear you!

The chambered systen IS louder...and I LOVE IT!

It is a true dual system with no crossover connection between them except for the engine intself.

I love the sound, when I first drove the 78 I had a face splitting grin and and I giggled every 1/4 mile or so from sheer giddiness. I still will not turn on my tunes because I love listening to the sound of the exhaust!

I have a few buzzing vibrations from an interior piece at certain rpms, but Kenny will chase those down tomorrow. Overall I most especially like the sound. It sounds like a big block, and makes the engine sound like it has a WICKED cam (which it doesn't).

*Yesterday at Sam's Club, she didn't fire up on the first turn of the key, so I tried again and when she caught, I gave the pedal a little juice, so she sounded like she "fired" up! Ba-whomp,blat-blat-blat-blat-blat.
Two men were closing a panel truck and I saw both of their heads whip around in my direction at her startup! They watched the 78 as I prepared to leave and they were walking towards the store as I backed out of my parking place (and I lost sight of them) as I pulled forward, they had halted their forward progress and were craning around an SUV to catch a look at the 78 as it pulled away.
I waved at them, and they waved back. I am getting more respectful attention from gearheads now.

Kenny says I have gained hp in the upper ranges, and I feel I have lost a little on the lower end. I notice it at take-off, she just feels a little 'boggy'. Mechanic says we can do some adjustments that will give me more bottom end. She does not 'squat' as distinctively as before, and I miss that. But the sound, man...the SOUND!...is incredible! I would not trade this for anything!

She sounds loud inside, but we have each driven the 78 past each other at various speeds/rpms and we both agree that she is louder inside, outside it is not bad at all. She just sounds....bigger.

I think you'd be happy with chambered.
I can offer to do what Eric (71Shark) did for me...we spoke over the phone so I could hear his system. Would you like to do the same?
Shoot me a PM or email (heidiken2@earthlink.net) [do be sure to state you're from CACC in the 'message' area so we don't delete your unknown email] and we can get together to agree on a time to call each other and trade phone numbers.

It is schweeet!

I want to clarify the loudness issue...

The exhaust definitely is louder, but not obnoxiously so.
While it sounds considerably louder inside while driving, at hwy speeds you can actually hold a conversation without shouting. At town speeds, the sound is a deeper rumble.

I am very happy with the system. WOT has a fabulous sounding ROAR!

I agree entirely with Heidi on the loudness issue. I will admit though, that when the system was brand new it was bordering on too loud but it mellowed out a little and is now perfect. And the looks - oh my does it ever get the looks!

My mind is made up!

Thanks alot Heidi, & everyone else for your replys.

I'm going for the chambered system, but this will be next spring
or summer!
Now i wonder if a crossover would help the bottom end?!

My mechanic explained to me...

...that the wider pipes allow less back pressure and you will lose some bottom end torque. I asked about putting on smaller (restrictive) tips and he said that the wider pipe between the exhaust manifold and the tips will still cause me to lose torque.

He did say that with engines and power, there are 'trade-offs' and things must 'blend well' to work well. Like when building a motor, you need to be sure components will work well together. (Example: it makes no sense to install a hi-flow carb if the manifold and heads can't handle the cfm)

Anyhow, he said we could adjust the settings on my engine's timing and distributor to compensate and give me back most of the low end torque that I lost.

In light of this explanation, I don't think a crossover will give back bottom end torque.
