Anybody got any idea on what to look for on the difference in height from the left to right sides of my '64? At both front and rear bumpers on the drivers side, it is 1" higher than the passenger side bumpers. I can't figure out why the equal difference in both bumpers. Thanks for opinions and suggestions.:confused

Is it the entire body or just the bumpers?

if you get under the car and the frame is level from side to side then the problem is in the body mounts.

If you get under the car and the frame is lower on one side then it has to be in the suspention

I wish it had been the body mounts, it might be easier to fix, but....it's the suspension. It's 1" higher front and back than the passenger side. How do I start to figure where the problem is. Again, many thanks. :confused

Turn the rear spring around. At that point it may come out even. If not, you should be able to then adjust the height if you reinstall the ends of the rear spring with nonGM grade8 bolts and nylok nuts.

Dont know if anybody will agree with me , But I think all mesurements should be taken with the drivers weight or the driver in the car! When I(we) set up a drag racing chassis OR have it lined-up we always have the driver in the car.If this practice is not acceptable, first try ajusting the rear spring only a little at a time and see if the front dosent follow the rear.GOOD LUCK Paul:)

Turning the rear spring around sometimes works, personal experience.

I agree Paul, and I set the height of my car with 60-70 lbs of weight in the driver's seat (about half way between no passenger and a light passenger) before and during wheel alignment. I don't know if the car in question has adjustable bolts in the spring ends, in place of the factory castle nut set up. Mine does.

I still have castle nuts on my setup. If I understand correctly do you believe a new alignment may be needed to correct the height and also to flip the springs?

Attret00 - sorry - I didn't mean to cloud the issue gabbing about alignments.

If you turn the rear spring around, you may solve the problem. Since you still have the GM castle nuts holding to the ends of the spring, and you have a height problem - unless you will show the car at an NCRS meet - swap out the GM bolts and castle nuts for grade 8 bolts with nylok nuts. You will have to remove and reinstall the end bolts to turn the spring. If you install adjustable bolts instead of the originals, you can adjust the height to eliminate any subsequent height difference.

Magic is referring to a kit like this, this one from Vette Brakes (8" Spring Bolts and Poly Cushion Kit, ID: 32306, $30) but other sources exist as well:

Thanks guys. I'm going to get one of those kits and install. (I like the picture too)
