Just got an '86, no engine or transmission (exactly what I was looking for). I do have a Ford V8 (sacrilege?) for the engine bay and am almost done designing a new transaxle (9-speed). The targets for the build are 500 Hp but able to cruise at 55 to 60 mpg (near constant 45% thermal efficiency). Lots of details, of course, but the base approach will be F1-like lean burn with turbocharging and early closing valves to allow high compression -- required for good TE numbers). This will not be my first "transplant" engine, but it is the first time I'm going with different brands.
