I just purchased the new linkage kit for my 1969 350/300. I was wondering if anybody new if it was better to go from the top or bottom to reach the connecttions on the shifter itself? Also when putting in the allen wrench or whatever you use it it better to line up and put tool in from bottom or top?

I am having a hard time finding the holes from the top and also trying to reach the little connectors that hold rods etc on? I woul appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

Donw

Hurst shifter

Put mine on about 6 years ago, Hard to remember but I think i did everything from the bottom with the exhaust off the car. You'll have to crawl under it to get to the linkages. I also seem to recall that a mounting bracket of some kind had to be removed from the tail end of the transmission on my '73 to use the Hurst. That shifter will definitely shift faster than a stock unit but you'll be rattlin' and rollin' in 5000 - 10,000 miles.
good luck

Everything should be done from underneith. The alignment hole is accessible from the drivers side on the Hurst shifter. The original GM shifter used a mounting point on the crossmember. The Hurst only uses three mounting bolts on the side of the trans. Installing the new shifter remove the shift knob and reverse lock-out lever. After dropping the linkage and removing the mounting bolts, drop the stock shifter out from underneith.

Next: Push the new Hurst shift lever up through the boot and mount with the three mounting bolts. Align the shift plates with the alignment tool, allen wrench or similar tool and attach and adjust the linkage rods. Remove the alignment tool and adjust the stop bolts. Don't try shifting until the alignment tool has been removed. Next: go have fun.
