Hi there, I really need help deciding. I've been flipping a coin for a long time without any luck. I'm buying a used corvette and I narrowed my choices to these two:

2002 Z06 Red 15,000 miles $31,000

2004 Coupe Red 1,700 miles 6 spd Removable-top. $35,600

Which one should I go for? and why?

Hitman,
I merged your two threads and removed the redundant message to avoid having two threads on the same subject.

My $0.02 on the subject- if the Z06 is good condition, has been well maintained, and has relatively low miles, I'd recommend that. Not that an '04 Coupe isn't worth going after, but if you crave performance, you'll love the Z06.

Now, I'm sure you'll get some other recommendations on this subject to, so before I get accused of bias (as I have a Z06), let me just say that a big part of the answer is what you want out of owning a Corvette. If you like the top-off feel, the Coupe is the way to go, and with a few mods you can up to the 405 HP of the Z06. If taking the top off isn't a big deal, and you crave performance, then I stick with my earlier comment: go with the Z06.

And Welcome to the CAC! :w

I agree with Patrick. If you just need that top off, go with the coupe. Me personally, I would go Z06 because I'm a power junkie.:D

Only one answer!

After one week with the 06 you will back off the pedal and then you will start thinking about tooling around in the warm weather with only the windows open.

The 02 is the the right choice but again in a year you will be passed by your garden variety everyday car packing between 350-535hp.

But again in the 02 you can take the top off, but again in the 06 you will probably stay with the new pocket rockets.

So the answer is only you can make the choice.

The colors are so right.

their both kick butt vette's, check them both out, the Z06 sounds nice

take care :w
jss

Are you a Soprano???????

Well if you are then you are picking the wrong color, black would be more suited for you. And the 06 would be a better choice to out run the competition.

Alan

I would suggest the Z06...

I had a 99 coupe and traded it in for the 01 Z06...

A day hasn't gone by that I have'nt be glad I bought the Z06...

The Z06 is amazing!

Get the o2 z06...(JMO)

I don't know about that . . .

The bigger issue is this: do you buy a Corvette (any model, any year) for its potential (emphasis intentional) future resale value? Or do you buy it because you are a performance car enthusiast?

I'm in the latter category. I'll let future values of my '03 Z06 take care of themselves, if and when I ever decide to sell it- and that day is a long, long way in the future (if ever. ;) )

Hitman's question was which of the two vehicles he's looking at: an '02 Z06 or an '04 Coupe should he buy. I think the answer to that depends on how Hitman plans to use it- is it a daily driver? Weekend fun mobile? Car show "garage queen"? Racing and/or performance driving? The answer to that will likely point him in the direction of the right Corvette for him.

Hitman, keep us updated on what you decide here. Good luck with your choice, and let us know if we can help answer any questions.

Well said, Patrick. Couldn't agree more on both resale and personal preference points.

An 02 Z06 with 15k miles for $31K! WOW... :cry (that's all mine is worth?!)

Take a long, hard look at how important it is to drive with the top off.
If the answer is anything less than "extremely important" then go with the Z.

I wish I had 31k laying around. I'd buy another one. Z that is.

That seems like a reasonable price to me, but I am no expert. I had a '97 coupe. The targa top is nice, and I miss it some times. It is not nearly as open as a convertible, however. I traded for the 2002 Z06 because I wanted the 6 speed and I wanted to go faster at the drag strip. :D I would support the Z06 option, myself. It is, in my opinion, a whole lot more car than the coupe ever was.

I agree, I feel the same way.

The removable top is not really a priority for me. In fact I think it is just a nice to have because where I'm taking this car to, the weather rarley lets you open the top due to elevated temperatures (120+ F). The only reason I was considering the 04 coupe is because it is 04 and it has only 1,700 miles compared to 02 and 15k for the Z06.

Your opinions has really helped me overcome this dilema and I've decided that the performance is really important for me. Beside I'd have to spend $5,000 extra for the 04.

Therefore the 02 Z06 it is :) I gave the owner a deposit and now waiting for him to clear out the paper work from his bank to bring this beauty home.
