Last summer my 94 developed some engine problems. I drove about 60 miles away and it wouldnt start back up. It finally did after a few trys but missed out very bad. It eventually came out of it and ran ok after about a mile. It ran fine a few times after that ( I don't drive it every day). About a month after the first incident I had driven it about 4 miles, came back home and it sat for about 20 minutes and the same thing happened, it stumbled all over itself, I managed to get it to the garage in back of the house and it died and would start back up, it would crank and act like it was going to start but wouldnt. I had it towed to a shop where a very corvette knowledgable mechanic worked and naturally it fired right up for him. He tested fuel pressure, it was ok, replaced the ignition module and coil, changed the optispark (cap and rotor) and fuel filter. Said he couldn't really find anything, it set no codes but noticed the optispark had some carbon lines on it. It ran fine but sat for a few months this winter. Got it out the other day, it was damp, and it did the same thing, ran fine for about a mile when I shut it off to run an errand, came back out and it stumbled all over itself. Died once and started back up and after a couple blocks ran fine. I took it out yesterday for about a two hour drive since it was nice and I wanted to see it I could get it to act up and make some notes, it ran fine. I got back home, fired it up after it sat for about 30 minutes and it started missing out again. I love to drive this car but I don't trust it not to get me stranded. My mechanic is baffeled because it isn't setting any codes and everything seemed to test ok. Could it be a TPS or EGR? I don't know if he tested that and what about a bad ECM? Are there any signs to point to any of those? I'd love to confidently get this fixed. Im in Indiana and if theres a corvette specialist anywhere near I'll hand it over to him to check it out. My mechanic is very good and was the corvette guy at the local dealership till he went out on his own but like I said, he's a little baffeled. Thanks for any advice here, spring is around the corner.

Thanks Tom, It took awhile but I read through the thread, that is definately a great example of everyone on here working together. I'm still at a loss. Im not a mechanic and couldn't play one on tv. My problem is more intermitent (however you spell it). I'd sure like to get it fixed and know its fixed. Spent most of the fall dealing with this. I need an expert corvette mechanic close to here if anyone on here knows of one

Ive also notice it running rich on start up. Hopefully this gives a direction to start looking. It smells strong but not of eggs.

I've had my 96 for 7 years. I'm not not as savy as Hib or Junk but, in the handful of times it has run rough (without a code) it has been a fuel filter, clogged injector(s), a hole in the PCV hose (the rubber elbow, right before the valve but, eventually it threw a MAF code), and the big one; plug wires not routed properly and arcing to block or brackets (Run it in the dark and look for arc flashes). Try to stay optimistic; if there isn't a code, it might be simple.

Good luck-

It may be fixed. I took it to a great gm mechanic. I had checked the fuel pressure when it acted up and it was reading 20lbs. I thought the guage was off because I was told it woiuldnt even start with that low of pressure. I replaced the fuel pump regulator and filter anyway and the problem got worse. Turns out the replacement delphi pump was bad and had a gm mechanic replace it with an ac delco and now it seems to be running fine. Tomorrow Im taking it to a cruise in about an hour north, this is where it left me stranded last summer, so well see what happens.
