Is it a problem to expose the cooling system to air when
you cut a hose and splice a jumper in its place? Would
the air bubbles introduced be an issue?

If so, who do you get them out?

--I need to do a splice tonight to cut my heater core out
off of the system

There is an air bleed valve on the thermostat housing. After putting in the splice and filling with water, bleed any air out of the system here.

Careful here though as it allows water/coolant to get on the OptiSpark if you try to bleed too fast and don't have a rag handy.

sothpaw, there are actually 2 of them on your car. If you have bypassed the throttle body cooling line, then you only have the one on the t-stat housing, otherwise do the one on the TB as well... all you have to do is unscrew them a little until a steady stream of coolant comes out... do this with the car OFF. the procedure is actually in the owners manual... Have fun bypassing the heater core:)

I only know of two bleeder screws if you have the LT1. One is at the thermostat housing and the other is located in a "tee" where the coolant from the throttle body connects to the heater return hose. They both have slotted heads which you can use a screwdriver to loosen. Try to put some rags around them when you do so the antifreeze won't run down the engine.

This site should help you.

VetteLt193,

What you thought I wouldn't do it? I hate that __ thing now!
There's no way I'm paying somebody to put a new core in,
when I never use heat.

Thanks for all the help!
