I'm looking to purchase my first Corvette, but would like a bit of help in checking out a car. Does anyone know of a good person in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) who could help me?

The car I'm looking at is a 1959, 283/245 HP, matching numbers, 2x4 bbl, 3 speed, soft top, good body and chrome. The asking price is $40K.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Paul

Sorry, I don't know anyone near your location, but I can say good luck in your search.

In a general sense, my advice would be to take your time and buy the best car your budget allows for. Careful not to fall in love too soon. :D Money spent on the best car possible is far better than repairing or restoring as the parts prices (and labour if you don't do it yourself) are killers.

Since your interests are with cars that are now over 40 years old, a lot of surprises can be waiting. I think you're wise to get someone with C1 experience to assist you. The right car is out there waiting.

Welcome aboard.

Hi Paul,

If you are going to be buying a solid axle I would suggest joining the NCRS www.ncrs.org . Ask on the Technical Discussion Board. I'm sure there are knowledgable members in your area that would check over the car for a small fee or free even. You could also check in the Portal (tab at the top of this page) for inspection/appraisal services or Hemmings Motor news www.hemmings.com for the same. Keep in mind that not all services are Corvette specialists and you may get a report on condition but not authenticity.

Paul,

I saw your post on the Tech Board. Any luck finding help yet?

Dear Tom, (and 67Heaven)

Thanks for your replies to my post. I am tracking down a person in the local Covette club. Someone knows a person who owns a '59. I should get a call back today. Everyone's been very helpful and willing. That's just great. The Covette family seems to be very helpful and welcoming.
