I am contemplating upgrading my 1988 Callaway with the AeroBody kit.
My questions for anyone who has an opinion:

Will it hurt the value of this car if I make this change?

Is it more cost effective to sell this car and buy an Aerobody car? (Current kits are $8350 uninstalled.

Any advice would be appreciated.

:)

If you love the car and want to keep it long term and can afford the areo body then get it if it brings you pleasure as opposed to some investment potential. The areo body is a very attractive package.

Here is my opinion

And it's nothing more than that... just an opinion. But since you asked, I'd say leave your car just as it is. The Aerobody did not become available until 1989. So, although it certainly works for your car it seems more appropriate for the '90 and '91 model year TTs to me. (A few '89s would qualify as well). I don't really think it would hurt or help the value of the car. If you want to spend $15K+ installed for it that's a personal choice. It would likely be more cost effective to sell yours and buy a '90 or '91 already with the Aerobody. It's easy for me to say that but I do become very attached to my cars so I might not be able to follow through with that choice.

From a practical standpoint that word doesn't even enter into the conversation. It's NOT practical. It is a very brittle fiberglass shell that turns your car from something that can be driven and enjoyed on a regular basis to a fragile show piece. If you don't like paint chips, scraps on the lower nose piece and constant concern about parking don't even consider it. If you so much push on it too hard it could crack.

Luigi is the only one I've seen with the stones to drive an Aerobody many miles and I respect that. His front end has the scars to prove it! I couldn't do it... I get too freaked out by the paint chips. I got four or five of them in Carlisle and I used a nose mask the whole time except for trips back and forth from the hotel to the fairgrounds

Thanks 90Callaway,

This is exactly the type of feedback I was hoping to receive. I appreciate any opinions here. I drive my car without concern for normal wear and tear and mine is full of stone chips and a few slight scratches after 50,000 miles. In fact, the car was far from perfect when I purchased it.

I was unaware that the AeroBody fiberglass was so brittle. This is useful information in making my decision. I have to admit though; I fell in love with the Aerobody Corvette from the moment I saw one and I plan on owning one someday. Right now I am leaning toward selling my current roadster and looking for an AeroBody one. It appears this would be a more cost effective route. Besides, someone may really appreciate a Callaway with a stock body???:confused

P.S. Beautiful car Kevin!
