Hey there,

I need some help id'ing this distributor -- the type, not necessarily the manufacturer. I've got a 72 LT1, so it is supposed to be a points distributor from Delco Remy. Now, at the very least the cap and the rotor have been changed, but is that all? I've looked at diagrams of points, breakerless, and TI dists and I've found at least one diagram in for each of these that could match my distributor.

So, please see the pics and help me out!

All I can tell is that the points have been replaced by a Pertronix module, and it has an aftermarket cap and rotor; the distributor I.D. and date code is on an aluminum band wrapped around the housing just above the flange that clamps it to the intake (unless someone removed it).

Is that lube all over the top of the advance mechanism? If so, I'd clean it all off - it will get gummy and sticky and interfere with the movement of the advance weights.

Yah, I couldn't see the id, so I assumed it had been removed.

The reason I wanted it ID'd was because I was going to get the Pertronix conversion if it was a points dist. Having never seen either a points dist or a Pertronix module, I thought I'd take some pics and ask. So thanks! You just saved me about $180 Cdn!

As for the gunk on top of the weights, I have no idea what it is -- I assumed it was lube and it was there for a purpose.

Thanks again.
