What is the procedure for removing the seat cushions in an 82? I'm installing new foam & covers. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I dont wish to tear something up.
Thank you.

Make sure you got hog ring pliers... Run a search here, there were a few of us who did this...seats are a little different 72-82, but I'm sure its just as much fun! :eyerole

Heres a link I just found...

Thanks for thr info TONY. It sounds and looks like a challenge. To remove the seat back foam I guessing that you push the foam at the clip area toward the middle of the seat to release it from the clip???

I got new hog ring clips & just cut the old ones off to remove the old seat foam...The seat hardware (clips & rods) cost me about $26...it was well worth the price rather than tryingto salvage the old hog rings...
On the 82's I'm not sure if it would just be clipped...somebody else might chime in for more detailed info...

try tld-corvette.com, they usually have good deals on that stuff...

I recovered my seats on my 73 a couple of years ago. Get a good set of Hog pliers and get the kit that comes with all the hardware that you will need. Just take your time on it you may want to have an extra pair of hands when re installing wires and hog pins. I heard also to put an trash bag over the foam when installing new seat covers, once the cover is on the foam just pull the trash bag off by ripping ot off. Makes covers go on a lot easier. Ecklers has a video on how to do this you may want to buy it if you want to. Also set the covers outside let the sun soften them before installing them makes it easier to fit them on foam.

Good Luck

I recovered a set of 81 seats to put in my 76. It's actually pretty straight forward. Make a mental note of how they come apart and where all the rods and hog rings go, and you'll do fine. It takes a couple of hours per seat to do, so just take your time and don't get into a rush. Start from the center and work out. I would lay the covers in the sun to get them warm so they'll stretch on and smooth out easier.

Thanks for all the advise guys. I have a bit more confidence now. Does anyone know the first steps with removing the seat bottom part of the seat?? Do I remove the 4 bolts from the seat track and remove the seatbottom foam then replace the cover?
I understand that the seat backs should be removed first.
I guess I'll go at it like the brake drum principle.
I'm not too stupid. It just kinda sounds like it.
Anyway thanks to everyone for the support.;)

I agree in doing one at a time, then you have one to reference from. Take your time and you will do fine.

Hog Ring pliers! :duh What are those?! :hb

I used two pairs of small needle nose vice grips and a whole pack of Goody's headache powder.

They are special pliers that curl the hog ring around the wire of the seat and frame. They are well worth the price.

tx73vette - thanks for the reply. Actually, I was trying to be somewhat sarcastic at myself. I know what hog ring pliers are, but I was too stubborn (and impatient) to get a set. Looking back, you're 100% right - it would have been well worth the money.
