All,

I have been doing extensive research to try to determine the ownership history of my '64 convertible. Through various sources, I've worked my way back to a previous owner in Maryland. I contacted him and he generously spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me reminiscing about the car. In the course of our conversation, I asked him where he originally bought the car in 1993. He told me that, although he could not remember the person's name (he is continuing to rack his brain for me...), that he recalled that the car was in Middleburg, Virginia. The seller, he went on to say, had a collection of Corvettes, in fact, he described the location as almost seeming like a "Corvette farm", but when I asked him if it was a dealership, he said it definitely was not. In fact, the man who sold him the car apparently had to get rid of one of his Vettes to make room for his wife's new car, so it was definitely a private seller.

I know this is a long-shot, but would anyone know of anyone who might have had a Corvette collection in or around Middleburg, VA in 1993 or thereabouts? The previous owner I spoke with seemed to recall that this collector owned my car from 1965 to 1993, which would go a long way to completing the car's ownership history for me. By the way, the car was a silver convertible, white convertible top, 250-hp, 3-speed.

As I said, this is a long-shot, but if this rings any bells for anyone, I'd be very grateful if you could let me know.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Mark

I live very close to Middleburg. This is a very rich part of the state. Now I don't know anybody who has such a collection of cars in that area. However you could talk to Jerry Welsh, he owns a MOBILE gas station in Purcellville, VA (you will have to go to information to get the number), but Jerry knoww just about everybody with such a collection of cars. Good luck I hope this helps.

Keith Boi, founder & formerly of the 40thregistry.com lives out in that town - may be able to find him @ Corvettes @ Carlisle if you attend...

Chuck Berge of still cruisin Corvettes in nearby Haymarket mgiht know as well...

I hope this helps - :v :m

Guys thank you both so very much! Like I say the past owner said he got it down there. I will be doing a title search, but not sure what va rules are all about. If past owner is correct I will come up one year short on past ownership.Heck even if I don,t get a contact in VA I will still be happy that I tried. thanks a bunch and wish me luck. I will need it. Mark.

Mark-

Like Colin I live near Middleburg and as he said it is a very wealthy area. If Chuck can't help ask his painter John, or call Tony's over in Gaithersburg MD. John's body shop is in Haymarket VA and he also has a farm where he works on painting and body restoations.

Good luck!

Dinger09. Thanks! I have emailed both Chuck and Keith, but have not yet received a response from either. I have not yet tried, Jerry Welsh, who I believe is jerry walsh in Purcellville. I will try the people you mentioned and Jerry as well, but I am currently trying a title search with DMV in VA first. I will post any info I get here. Again, the last time the car was registered in VA was 1993. However, the person who purchased car mentioned Middleburg VA, and the person he got car from owned it a very long time (possibly from 1965 until he sold it in '93). I'm following this lead to pursue what I was told by the Maryland owner. I am just trying to find out where the car has been and who owned it to document my car's history, as the car was a bit of an odd one in the configuration it came with. thanks again all and wish me luck!!!!! I absolutely love this car as it has been a childhood dream since I was 12 to own one. I'm 38 now...Yeah, it's taken a while, but you know what it's like (bills, mortgage etc.).

Correct me if I am wrong but I think John painted Colin's car? Is that right?

Give Chuck some time to get back to you. He and his wife were in Park City last week for the NCRS Nat'l Convention. She emailed me saying how long they would be gone. I deleted the mail but I seem to recall that they were taking their time getting back.

Good luck on your quest!

Update, Virginia DMV has no records that go back to 1993. I think I gave this one everything I had, well not a loss by any means. I was able to speak with the past owner in MD. Nice nice guy with the same spirit about old Corvettes that I have. I guess some things are not meant to be known. I will have to just enjoy the car. Thanks all for the tips and leads! Mark.
