The battery in my LT 1 Z07 died, i can not get into the car with the key or the clicker. is there any way that i can break into the hood to charge the battery? or does anyone have any ideas?

I don't understand, why won't your key open your door. :confused

_ken :w

Amen to that?:confused

Neither door lock works! Wow, thats unusual.:eek :eek

I'm sorry, but :L

To answer his question somewhat, yes there is a way to open the hood without being inside the car. What is that tool called?

That tool is used when you have access to the interior of the vehicle; it was designed in the event your hood release cable breaks. ;)

Oh, by the way, he has a problem with the tumbler in the door; that's why the key won't work. ;)

I think he doesn't have the bunny inside.

Hmmmmmmmm....

Maybe it is his neighbor's Z07 he wants to take out on a joyride.
:L

Or maybe the metal tumblers are powered by electricity on his car and even their very molecular properties have been changed w/o a functioning battery....Maybe if he would try sticking a battery into the keyhole it might open. :)

Just a crazy thought...but what about removing the front driver side tire...then removing the inside fenderwell....the bolts are accessable from there and once removed you should have access to the battery posts....

Do you have a door key ? If you do and it doesn't work , spray WD40 in the lock and work the key back and forth . Cliff

Look's like that's all we're down to now right?

Looking at your keys in the ignition....with the doors locked

Stop a tool truck like Mac or Snap-on, and buy a "Slim Jim." Tell him your problem. If he buys your story, and you figure out how to get the door unlocked, zip-tie the Slim Jim under the car for another day. Thats where I have mine....on days when I have one of those...."Senior Moments."

Gotta get the key working

This happened to me on another vehicle.
Use the clicker all the time, clicker battery died,
keyhole seized up from not being used.

If you go into the wheelwell, you'll be jacking up
your car w/out the E-brake set... hmmm.

In states w/ winter, there are little bottles for
frozen locks. Might try that... or WD-40.

Rick

BTW - why doesn't the clicker work?
Try a new clicker battery.

Hard to believe that the tumblers in both doors don't work. :eek

Good luck, don't have any suggestions other than breaking the window. On the pasenger side of course. Why should you get wet on the way to getting the window replaced. ;)

Leon

That is why they make wheel chocks....

If you will look closer to Ken's post you will see that the tumblers do not work...therefore the key is of no use....you cannot use the hood tool with the door closed unless you have a new paint job in mind.

Chock the wheels...remove the tire and then the wheelwell to gain acess to the battery, once charged you should have normal access to the door with your keyless entry system.

I saw ken's post. Just thought it odd that the tumblers didn't work in both the passenger and driver's door, that's all.

;stupid It does seem very very odd that the key doesn't work on both doors........ try calling a lock smith, they can get in....

How about just running a jumper wire from a good battery to the pos terminal on the starter and one for ground. Sure is a lot easier than taking the car apart........

Mike

Have you ever tried to slim jim a c4?.......

The starter solenoid is the disconnect point from the starter cable to the positive side of the old battery. The starter solenoid post cable to the postivie side of the battery cable, are not connected, or the starter would be running all the time. Trying to charge the battery from the starter cable would be a great idea. Only thing is, the starter cable needs to complete a circuit to the battery to make it charge.
If you turned the key on and held it, and also removed the cable from the starter, then yes, you could charge the battery via the starter cable.

The pos bat cable IS a direct link from the starter to the battery. This is Not a Ford. It's not hard to find. It's that big cable bolted to that big top post of the little solenoid bolted on the starter. That little purple wire is the one that activates the starter.

Mike

Mike is ( once again ) CORRECT!

In a Chevy... the BIG post on the starter is a home run to the positive post of the battery!

An additional thought... Getting a jumper cable into that position MIGHT be a bit tight... better to go to the local auto parts store and buy a short 6 gauge wire with a lug, to get on the back of the starter... then connect THAT to the positive of the jumper cable ( I would even nut it on )

But that would give you ENOUGH power to pop the lock... unless the batt was STONE DEAD... so then you can charge it for an hour or so that way.

I also have 2 of the Mighty Mite portable batterys... those come in REAL handy in cases like this.

However I think this is a mute post... the orig guy has not responded in a few days...

So there you have it!

Vig!

just one more thought... if the battery has been dead for a while, does the keyless entry still work, or does it have to be re-programmed?
