Help, lost a nut.:ugh :cry

I was puting the strut back on the body bracket and I felt the nut slip a bit then poof, it was gone.

Straight into the hole in the frame right behind the body bracket, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :mad:W :mad :W
How the hell am I going to get this nut back, my only thought is using a magnet, one question, is the frame aluminum or steel, if aluminum I can use a magnet from the outside to drag it up.

If this does not work I could take off both struts and the body bracket so i will have room to work.

Any suggestions.

Thanks
Mart :hb

I was a little sceptical about opening this thread ;)

The frame is steel, if you can't lift the car on end and shake the bolt out, you may need to get one of these...a flexable magnet. 6 bucks at sears. As a last resort you need to buy another nut.

i would try my best to remove it , with my luck , it would be one of those rattle gremlins in no time.

I tried to lift it and shake it last night, but I'm afraid I might lose my grip and drop the car while reaching for the nut.:eyerole ;LOL

And I really don't want one of the rattles.

I'll try the flex magnet.

Glad to hear this was not some industrial accident.

I have found that a helper is needed when holding the car over your head. It is not wise to shake the car using one hand while trying to extract the nut with the other hand. :D

Don't worry about a new rattle, with time passing therer will be even more so that you won't recognize this one.:D

I went and got the magnet tool in the pic and within a minute I got it, I'm so happy,:W

Thanks JonM

Ehh... just put some tape on it.

You know what a "posi-turner" is? It is two belts hanging from a mandrel and it is used to rotate awkardly shaped heavy objects around the horizantal plane... Buy one of those... Put the belts around the Corvette and rotate the car 180 degrees. If the nut does not fall from where it is hiding give it another 360 degrees. If it is not there start shaking and kicking the car. You will eventually get it. But no assurance of getting another rattle by the time you get the nut; so I take no responsibility for this method.

Cheers,

Selim

Nice job Jon :_rock Never seen one before, but I'm gettin' one next time I'm at Sears. Much better than the hose with the magnet that we had to rig up when I dropped a bolt down the SuperRam when we were nearly finished with the install ;LOL

Man, you shop at Sears? I USED to, but that's a long, sad story.

Another handy retrieval tool has a flexible shaft with three fingers that extend and spread out then you squeeze the handle.

Well --- fact is, I just don't shop :L I think I've been in Sears 3 times in the past 8 yrs or so, for a very specific item, just like the rest of the "shopping" I might do. I HATE shopping!

So, I'll know where to go if I need it ;)
