Not yet :(
The problem, is that it will have to be my daily driver. Currently, I drive 45 miles round trip to work. Within the next 1.5 years, that will increase to 120 miles round trip. I need to convince her that a C5 will be reliable enough for that kind of use. I am hoping for a 2000 or newer with low miles. How reliable are they, and how much $$$ for common repairs? Thanks!

C5's are very reliable and get about 30 MPG' on the highway . Anyone who spends that much time in their car should have a car they really like . It makes them come home in a much better mood ! How's that ? Cliff

I've only had my vette for a couple of months so i can't speak to the reliability but so far so good. As for the daily driver its great. I leave school to go home most weekends and as much as this place stresses me out I'm always in a great mood due to the drive so I couldn't agree more with the statement above. If its an fairly open or highway extensive ride go for the manual. You'll love being able to control it better on the drive.

My 97 is my daily driver.

I told my wife "If I had a Vette, I could spend more time with you."

She looked puzzled.

So I said "If I had a Vette, I could leave later in the morning and drive faster home in the afterneoon!"

She still didn't buy it.

Tell her your midlife crisis is in the near future. It’s the Corvette or a couple 22 year olds. She also should be reminded how happy she loves seeing you happy, and you wouldn’t want to be selfish and deprive her of this emotion. Be careful, Corvettes aren’t a very comfortable car to sleep in. ;)

hey Jon, I'm going thru that argument now, with my wife. I told her the same thing about 2 twenty year olds. She asked "Why 2?" I replied, "That way when I fall asleep, they'll have each other to talk to!" ;LOL

She laughed so hard, I got the OK to to get a 'Vette!

I did use that very argument with my wife. Her exact words "The ho would be cheaper on the budget". My response (and this was a few hours later, I had to think on this) was "Well when she doesn't put out, you will have to take her place and the girl I have in mind is damn kinky". I got the Coupe a few days later.

If you are going to spend that much time in a car it should be a Vette just for the pure pleasure and you will be in a better mood when you get to where ever you're going.

I was lucky when I got mine, I called my wife from the dealer and said I found the one.........she just said buy it. I am still waiting to see what it really is going to cost me.

I have owned 3 C4's which were all daily drivers. I was living in Buffalo and Rochester NY and drove them year round. I did have an alternate vehicle when the snow got too bad. Just as an FYI the temp readout does show negative numbers. You, I would say, will never see that in your part of the country.

My C5 is superior in every way to the C4 and I find it very comfortable to drive. However what you need to do in convince her you need a C6. XM radio, nav system, and onstar in case you do have a problem. :D

The C5 would be a great choice and all things equal it will hold its value better than anything else.

Good Luck

I guess I'm lucky - my wife encourages my car habit. After the 'rebuilding of an icon' show on the C6 the other day, I was drooling so much she said 'Why don't you get one then?'. GOD I love that woman! :_rock

Maybe in a year or 2, but I'm not willing to shell out the $15k over sticker they want around here for one. Besides, I've got another project that I've been neglecting that needs my $$ now.

If you really need to convince her, here's a couple of things to try:

"We'll save all kinds of money on vacations since we'll be driving instead of flying."

or the ever popular:

"I want to get this so I can make it back home faster every day after work - so I can see more of you."

or - this one - which would probably only work on my wife:

"Just think - when you drive it, you can flip off the a$$holes on the road AND get by them at the same time!"

Try this one:

"You would look great riding in the new C5 honey!"

Or this one:

"It has dual climate control so you can adjust the temperature to your comfort level."

Or this one:

"You can pick the color as long as it's Silver or Red or Yellow or Blue or White."
:L

Thanks everyone. She isn't convinced yet, but she is softening! Just a matter of time now!

Keep working on her . It will definately be worth the effort .:D Cliff

Oh, yeah- my wife really likes the whole OnStar thing. She says her next car WILL HAVE OnStar. No discussion. Hmmmmm.... maybe that means C6.....

Told my wife "there comes a time in everyones life when you just need more h.p. My Z3 (the car I was going to keep forever) just didn"t measure up. When the warranty is off I will probably supercharge it (that will be another story)

Bring Her Along

When I told my wife that I wanted a vette ... she just laughed and said NO!
I can still remember that Saturday morning drive down to Colonial Heights, VA ... I told my wife we were going for a short drive ... she did not have any clue that we were gonna be looking at corvettes. Anyways, we got there and she saw all the vettes ... we test drived a few C5s, red, silver and yellow. I wanted the yellow and she wanted the yellow and red ... I told her I only want one ... the yellow was the final choice. I love that woman, she told me that she appreciated what I did ...by taking her along and not leaving her out in making decisions in getting my dream car ... I told her, I wanted her to be there with me ... the rest is history ... my wife is cool ... she loves vettes now like I do. ;)

Great story...

Congratulations...

No matter what though ....definitely get the car you want..with the options you want etc..(manual or automatic) otherwise you'll always be thinking I should a coulda woulda....

Take your time in finding a good example of the car you would like. There are so many fine examples..

I believe corvettes to be owned by a special group of enthusiasts that take better care of their cars than can be believed..(not all but most)

I honestly believe the c5 is one of the finest preowned values out in the marketplace..

BTw...a C5 is an excellent daily driver..

Has no high maintaince costs...

Change the oil every 5 to 10K miles...if you like..

Tune it up every hundred K. or 50K if you like..

Tires last and are available from many sources like Kumho etc....600 for 4?

Insurance is cheap because the industry knows how well corvette owners care for their cars...

Gas mileage? on the highway is like 30mpg...

And the price of the car you're looking at should be in the low twenties..

Sure you could buy some boring car for 20 something...but it wouldn't be a vette..

Last piece of advice if your wife is of sound mind...

Better to ask for forgiveness then to ask for permission...
